Better Hearing Australia

Better Hearing Australia (Victoria) is the only service in Victoria that provides free, independent and professional information, advice and training in all aspects of hearing loss management and hearing health care.  This includes managing hearing loss, tinnitus management and ear/hearing pathologies.

Better Hearing Australia (Victoria) is a not-for-profit organization and government agency. We don™t charge for services or sell any products. We™re an advisory and information service that assists people in navigating their way through the maze of hearing services, hearing aids, hearing technology and various approaches to managing tinnitus and other ear problems.

Common requests for information and advice include:

  • Obtaining a hearing test (we provide free hearing screenings)
  • Qualifications and locations of service providers
  • Explanation of the hearing process and hearing test results (audiogram)
  • The types and features of hearing aids
  • Consumer protection relating to the purchase of hearing aids and other technology
  • Advice and demonstration of assistive technology (e.g. telephones / telephone use, personal listening, television and music, safety and alerting signals - with or without using hearing aids)
  • Communication strategies

Community Assistance Scheme

Our Community Assistance Scheme enables some people with hearing loss on low incomes to be fitted with a reconditioned hearing aid, from our Hearing Aid Bank, at little or no cost.
