Eating disorders are a serious mental illness - not a lifestyle choice, a diet gone wrong or a fad. Eating Disorders Victoria ('EDV') aims to change the stigma associated with the condition and disseminate a message of hope.

Recovery is possible.

EDV offers a range of services:

EDV HUB: A free and confidential service providing information or support about eating disorders and related issues. Call 1300 550 236 weekdays between 9.30am and 4:30pm to speak with an EDV volunteer.

Support Groups: EDV groups allow people to discuss and share their experiences, emotions and challenges, and to develop positive strategies in a safe and supportive setting.

Private psychology and dietitian sessions for people experiencing eating disorders and related issues, as well as for family and friends who are supporting a loved one.

Education: EDV holds workshops, presentations and courses aimed at the early intervention and support of people with eating disorders for primary and secondary school students, teaching staff, primary care professionals, dietitians, fitness professionals, people in the fashion industry, community organisations and the general public.  

GP Education:  General Practitioners (GPs) are often the first point of call for people who feel they or a loved one may have an eating disorder.  EDV provides in-person and online training to ensure GPs recognise eating disorders in patients and provide appropriate treatment pathways. 

Peer Mentor Program (PMP) is a unique way to address the high relapse rate for individuals currently transitioning from hospital treatment.  The program works by pairing participants with mentors who themselves have experienced and recovered form an eating disorder. 

Stories of Recovery:  trained ambassadors, who have recovered form an eating disorder or who have cared for someone who has recovered, share their story with others.
