Dr Gopalan Poovalingam

Dr Gopalan Poovalingam is a Gyneacologist with a special interest in Urogynaecology, minimally invasive
Advanced Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopy surgery. He is one of the very few leading Gynaecologists in
Melbourne that practices Rapid Recovery Gynaecological surgery (RRGS) and employs the latest approach
to Prolapse and Incontinence surgery. He has completed training in Australia and abroad, studying under
the guidance of world renowned Urogynaecologist, Professor Ajay Rane and Laparoscopic Surgeon,
Professor Chyi-Long Lee.

Dr Poovalingam understands the importance of keeping abreast of changing technologies and techniques.
He is progressive in his approach to treating his patients and employs the RRGS program where possible to
help his patients resume their normal routines as soon as possible. Gopalan works with Perioperative
Physicans to ensure that patients are screened prior to surgery and well managed post-operatively. This
not only minimises the risk of hospital-acquired infections and DVT's, but also improves the patient's
satisfaction with the overall treatment and outcomes. Most of his patients return home within 24-hours
and are back to their normal routines within days of their procedure; this includes driving. These measures
have significantly reduced the stress of having major surgeries; especially for young mothers.

For over a decade, Gopalan has provided women with a high quality Gynaecological service.
His competency in performing a wide range of complex surgeries has earned Dr Poovalingam the respect
