Australian-trained Ear Nose and Throat Head and Neck Surgeons (ENT surgeons) complete a training programm supervised by The Australian Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery (ASOHNS), the New Zealand Society of Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. They hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).
In 2021 there were close to 550 registered ENT surgeons in Australia (Medical Board of Australia, Registrant data, www.ahpra.gov.au/). ASOHNS is the representative professional organisation for ENT Surgeons in Australia.
Overseas trained ENT surgeons seeking recognition of their training in Australia need to apply for an assessment by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Medical Council.
