Women have unique health needs, both physical and psychological. Many of these relate to stages of life such as pregnancy and postnatal conditions, the psychological demands of motherhood, menopause and taking on the carer role in the family unit. There are also many conditions that predominantly affect women such as osteoporosis, breast cancer and anorexia nervosa.
The Commonwealth Government is in the process of developing a National Women’s Health policy throughout 2009. Consultations during this process will bring together representatives from key groups concerned with improving women's health. The new policy is planned to be delivered in 2010.
